Our Lady of the Cove Parish was established in 1960 by the first bishop of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Most Reverend Charles Helmsing. The first church was located on the shore of a cove of Table Rock Lake. Able to be reached by boat or land, the lakeshore mission church was primarily for summer vacationers. The first Mass was celebrated by Father James McKenna on November 26, 1961. Father McKenna, Father James Philips, Father Quentin Hahn and Father Raymond Orf served the parish with its sister mission, Our Lady of the Ozarks in Forsyth, under the care of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Branson. As the parish grew a need for a bigger church arose. While Father John Brath was pastor, ground breaking took place at the present site on June 25, 1978. After completion of the new church, Bishop Bernard Law elevated the mission church to parish status. There are currently about 450 families registered with the Parish.
